RACE 3 & 4 OF THUNDER ON THE HILL, JULY 30, 1991

 STEVE SMITH & FRED RAHMER SHARE TWIN 35 LAP THUNDER ON THE HILL VICTORIES AT GRANDVIEW

BECHTELSVILLE, PA      Rain has often made an appearance at Thunder on the Hill and after rain delayed the feature event on June 11, Thunder on the Hill and Grandview Speedway were all set  with twin 35 lap features on Tuesday night, July 30.  This night came off after yes, a 70% chance of rain on race night.   In the 35 lap 410 Sprint make up feature, Steve Smith charged from his tenth starting position to take the lead on lap twenty-eight and become a repeat Thunder on the Hill feature winner.

Steve Stambaugh, Fred Rahmer, Kenny Jacobs, Randy Wolf and Bill Pauch, driving the Bill Brian owned #17 were all in contention.    Early in the race, Pauch tangled with Dave Haight and launch a series of flips high in sky in turn one.  Pauch was not injured.   Stambaugh led on the restart and maintained the top spot until lap ten when he and Steve Smith touched wheels down the backstretch with Smith taking the lead exiting turn four.    Smith took the win, his second Thunder victory in three events.  It was Smiths seventeenth sprint car win of the 1991 season.   Following Smith was Steve Stambaugh, Fred Rahmer, Randy Wolfe and Kenny Jacobs. 6 to 24th was Cris Eash, Dan Dietrich, Bill Case Jr., Mal Lane, Dave Haight, Elmer Stoltzfus, Alan Hewitt, Bobby Weaver, Alan Cole, Johnny Mackison, Glenn Fitzcharles, Todd Gracey, Billy Ellis, Tom Wanner, Steve Siegel, Billy Pauch, Ron Keys, Dave Hahn.

In the second 35 lap 410 Sprint feature, Todd Gracey set the early pace followed by Dave Kelly and Kenny Jacobs.   Kelly and Jacobs dropped Gracey to third and a thrilling battle started between Kelly and Jacobs.  The battle for the lead went on until lap twenty-seven when the duo, battling for the lead tangled with the slower car of Dave McGough.  After contact with the wall, Kelly and Jacobs were the result of a caution.  This put Fred Rahmer in the top spot for the restart.  Through the final laps of the feature, Rahmer held off a challenging Randy Wolfe and a fast closing Steve Smith.   Rahmer took the win, Steve Smith was second after starting nineteenth followed by Wolfe, Cris Eash, and Bobby Weaver.  Finishing 6 to 24 were:  Dave Kelly, Frankie Kerr, Dave McGough, Todd Gracey, Buzz Wilson, Chuck Reinert, Billy Ellis, Glenn Fitzcharles, Elmer Stoltzfus, Steve Stambaugh, Paul Lotier, Kenny Jacobs, Bill Case, Gary Gollub, Glen Clarke, Mel Lane, Steve Siegel, Tom Wanner, Billy Pauch.   After flipping in the first feature, Billy Pauch won the B Main with the same car but retired early from the second feature of the night.
