RACE 5 OF THUNDER ON THE HILL AUGUST 27, 1991 WEAVER IS KING OF THE HILL

BOBBY WEAVER WINS 50 LAP KING OF HILL THUNDER SERIES EVENT AT GRANDVIEW

BECHTELSVILLE, PA  . . . . . . 1991 Marked the second season of Thunder on the Hill at Grandview.   Rain was not a friend to the Thunder Series as the June 11 event was rained out just prior to the feature event.  On July 30, again with a 70% chance of rain in the forecast, the show went on as Steve Smith won the make up feature with Fred Rahmer winning the second feature of the night.

Thunder on the Hill was scheduled for Tuesday night, August 20, 1991 but rain again postponed the event until Tuesday night, August 27.

The fifth Thunder Series event was the 50 lap King of the Hill.  Bobby Weaver driving the ZEMCO sprinter dominated the event and collected the $6,500 first place prize.   Eastern Foundry Sponsor Dick Smith celebrated with Weaver in victory lane.   Weaver proudly wore the crown and king’s robe.

Heats were won by Kenny Jacobs, Steve Stambaugh and Fred Rahmer as Dave Kelly won the “B” Main.  Stambaugh also won the dash that night.   Following Weaver to the finish line were Fred Rahmer, Kenny Jacobs, MeMe DeSantis and Cris Eash.   Making up the top ten were Dave Hahn, Don Kreitz Jr.,  Randy Wolfe, Dave Kelly and Johnny Mackison.

Over the winter months of 1991, Promoters Bruce Rogers and Bob Miller worked on a revolutionary promotion, for the first time in history, the CRA (California Racing Association) Non-Wing Sprints would travel to Pennsylvania and make their first stop at Grandview.   This started the trend towards the return of non-wing sprint car racing in the East.
